Mahakumbh 2025 is not just a Hindu festival, it is a colossal congregation of devotees armed with faith and belief to battle cold weather, gigantic crowds, and every possible challenge. In addition to the expected gathering of 40 crore pilgrims, the whopping budget of ₹5,000 crore, and the end of 144 years of waiting, the Mahakumbh 2025 is the first Kumbh mela of the digital era. This year, the Mahakumbh 2025 location is Prayagraj and the Mahakumbh 2025 date extends from 13th January to 26th February. The sheer determination, planning, and talent required to keep things under control while bidding farewell to the devotees upon return with smiles on their faces sets a benchmark for event organization.

Mahakumbh 2025: Perfect Preparations 

The ingredients for a successful Mahakumbh lay in how well the preparations were carried out and the government left no stone unturned. The preparations for the religious gathering were carried out on a war footing level. The Mahakumbh Mela site has been set on 4,000 hectares and the entire region is divided into 25 sectors with 50 bathing ghats. 

From smooth traveling and accommodation to health, safety, and crowd management, every nook and cranny of the festival has been taken care of. There are almost 1.5 lakh tents in the festivals, 50,000 shops, 25,000 dustbins, 1.5 lakh toilets, thousands of cameras, and much more. All these aspects were weaved together by the Ministry of External Affairs and the UP government to make Mahkumbh a grand success. 

Many things can go wrong at the festival; spread of infectious disease, terrorist attacks, fire breakout, scams, communal tension, people getting lost, and above all; stampedes. All these things were considered during the preparation and the infrastructure, manpower, tools, and measures were implemented and brought into action to tackle any unexpected situation. 

Another big challenge in the Mahakumbh is going to be health issues. Any kind of virus outbreak can become catastrophic and ruin the entire experience of Mahakumbh.  This is why it is necessary to keep health issues at the top of the priority list. 

Here is what has been done in Prayagraj to make it ready to welcome more than 40 crore devotees throughout the 45 days of religion in its pristine form:-

Infrastructure

The soul of Mahakumbh is the infrastructure. The officials ensured that the entire city transformed into a modern megacity equipped with all the facilities that can easily host 40 crore devotees. The religious Mahakumbh has been combined with modern infrastructure in the most surreal way possible. The infrastructure must cater to an unparalleled crowd that the planet has never witnessed.

  Here is what the government did in terms of the infrastructure. 

• 30 new bridges have been constructed 
• Beautification of 17 roads along with renovation and repair of 92 roads
• 400 km of temporary road construction 
• Installation of mobile toilets 
• Expanded parking at the airport 
• 67,000 street lights installation 

You can imagine the size of the infrastructure as the construction of such an infrastructure has led to the formation of a temporary 76th district of Uttar Pradesh. 

Safety

One of the biggest concerns for the officials during the Mahakumbh is safety. When 1 crore visitors are expected to visit a place daily, safety becomes one of the most daunting challenges for the organizers. From old people to kids, people from different age groups, mentality, and social understanding will be flocking to Prayagraj and making sure that every single person takes the holy bath and returns home safely in the hands of the government. 

Every possible safety issue was listed and several plans were implemented to control any situation before it escalated. From weather change to crowd control, every safety issue requires rapid decision-making and quick actio,n and the organizers excelled at this. 

Technology has played a crucial role in implementing high-tech security measures in Mahakumbh. Here is how technology has been amalgamated into the security planning at Mahakumbh;

• AI-powered drone system for surveillance 
• Modern firefighting vehicles have been equipped with thermal and video imaging cameras. 
• More than ₹130 crore rupees have been assigned to the fire safety system. 
• Underwater drone surveillance 
• Implementation of robust cyber security for people searching for Mahakumbh and services related to it. 
• Use of multi-disaster response vehicle 
• 10,000 police personnel along with NDRF, CAPF, and PAC have been deployed at Mahakumbh. 

Health 

When so many people gather, health-related challenges automatically top the chart of priorities. And when seasonal influenza and HMPV are already knocking on the door, addressing health issues at Mahakumbh should be dealt with precaution. Transmission of diseases like infection or flu can go out of control. However, the organizers know the health-related risks and how it can put the gathering on pause for several days. This is what the government has done to keep health issues in check at Mahakumbh;

• 23 beds with a capacity of 360 beds have been prepared 
• 1,249 km of new pipeline for water supply
• 200 water ATMs
• Two infection disease hospitals
• State-of-the-art hospitals with 100 beds
• Two sub-central hospitals with 25 beds each 
• 10 first aid posts with a single bed 
• 1.5 lakh temporary toilets have been set
• Special sanitation colonies 
• Special workshops and training sessions for doctors and nurses 

Organizing an event is one thing but managing a crowd of more than 60 crore people over more than 45 days is something that can’t be taught through books and rules. You don’t just need better organizational skills to make such a mega event successful, but you need to go beyond your boundaries of laid down duties and get involved on a personal level. The devotion, dedication, and culture of people involved in making Mahakumbh successful is what is required for any event to be successful.
